CLO's Lifelong Learning for Literacy Practitioners

Required Education and Experience

College Sector

Colleges have been delivering literacy and academic upgrading courses for adult students since 1964 when the Community College system was established. The College Sector Committee for Adult Upgrading (CSC), which represents the college literacy sector, defines its role as assisting the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities and leading the Ontario College System in the creation of provincial resources, procedures and standards related to the development and delivery of relevant academic upgrading programs and/or services. College sector survey results confirm that LBS managers look for a Bachelor's degree as a minimum educational entry-level requirement. Often, a Masters degree is preferred. The majority of managers expect practitioners new to the college to have at least two to three years related experience.
